Nursing is a physically demanding profession.  Students who register in the Saskatchewan Collaborative Bachelor of Science in Nursing program are required to participate in all aspects of the program.  Students will engage in clinical practice that involves physically strenuous activity such as repetitive lifting and bending, walking and standing over extended periods, and fine motor coordination.

For more information on the skills and abilities of a registered nurse, please refer to the Saskatchewan Registered Nurses' Association Becoming a Registered Nurse in Saskatchewan: Requisite Skills and Abilities.

Additional information requirements
The following requirements must be completed before you begin the SCBScN program:

  • Current CPR Health Care Provider certification
  • Current Standard First Aid certificate
  • Immunization

Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Search
All SCBScN students are required to have completed a criminal record check and vulnerable sector search prior to starting the program. These reference checks are done to protect patients / clients who are considered "vulnerable persons".

The criminal record check is a search for charges before the courts, findings of guilt or convictions, or a sexual offence for which a pardon has been granted or issued. Contact your local city policy or RCMP to have a criminal record check and vulnerable sector search done. Students under the age of 18 may receive a vulnerable sector search document from the RCMP. There may be a charge for this service.

In the event that your name, gender and date of birth match those of someone on the police database, you may be required to have your fingerprints taken to verify your identity. In that case, the results may not be available for up to 120 days. For this reason, you should initiate the request for a criminal record check at least four months before beginning your nursing program.

Additional costs
A first-year student will require, in addition to tuition and other fees, approximately $1,500 to cover the cost of uniforms and text books. More information will be made available upon registration.

Students are responsible for arranging their own travel to and from learning settings external to the University or either SIAST site, and for covering any costs incurred, including parking.

Students are responsible for both transportation and living expenses if undertaking a clinical experience outside of Regina (if they are registered at the University of Regina/SIAST Wascana sites), or Saskatoon (if they are registered at the SIAST Kelsey site).
